Slaves worked everywhere, not just in cotton fields. They cleaned house and took care of their owners' children. They made horseshoes and worked on ships. Slaves did more jobs than you can think of, even though they didn't want to. If they didn't do what they were told, their owners could beat them. Would you want to work in this kitchen? You'd have to cook in the fireplace. The pots are heavy iron.
