The roof: preparation and ridge beam

The house has a dormer on the west, which made things a little complicated.

This shows where the gable end meets the kneewall. The bevelled piece will strengthen and help seal the joint between the roof and wall panel.

The ridge beam will rest in a slot at the top of the gable. That's snow, not foam, in the slot. The arch will be a half-circle window above the door.

The top section of the gable is two SIPs side by side. The 2-bys that join these SIPs transfer the weight of the ridge beam to the header of the SIP below, above the arched opening.
